Perception is everything, isn't it.

When you look at this picture, do you see weeds or
flowers?

What if I told you a very sweet three year old boy went out in his yard and picked these especially for his grandma?

Perception is everything, isn't it.

I'll admit, when I look at my yard and see these yellow flowers peppered throughout the grass, it doesn't make me happy. They are a weed by all standards. Unless of course, one does not know that standard.

Imagine if you will, not being familiar with dandelions popping up in unwanted places. You see a yard of green and yellow for the first time and you think its
b e a u t i f u l.

Until someone tells you they are not a welcomed flower here in Washington.

4 Tips to Find Balance in Running a Business and a Family

I had the opportunity to share with Smart Creative Mompreneur's on Charlotte's fantastic site.

Please stop by her wonderful blog and leave a comment.

4 Tips to find balance in running a business and a family

"Although we no longer have children living in our home, the memory of having three children, a husband, and building a business doesn't seem like it was that long ago.

When Charlotte asked me to write for the blog, I was eager to say yes, because having “been there and done that,” I knew this was an opportunity to look back and ask myself what I would have done differently during that time. I also knew this was a great opportunity to look at the things I did right.... "

3 Time-saving Secrets to manage Home and Business efficiently

First of all: Thank you, Sue, for letting me share my story. This is about how one can be both a mom and a successful entrepreneur. I'm very happy to share my three best time-saving saving secrets with you all. They help me manage both my family and my business - and they really help me keep my sanity, too.

If you don't know me yet: A little something about me:
I am Charlotte Duzong, born in Aruba, living in The Netherlands with my two amazing children Kate and Spencer, my partner Jan-Willem and our dog Beaxa. I speak English, Dutch, Spanish and Papiamento. I am an ideas-person and I am passionate about helping moms manage their home and business efficiently. I am a recovering night owl, I thrive on supporting systems and habits and enjoy drinking pinja colada virgin in the sun :-)
Enough about me.

I am here to share how my life was when I started my home-based business about five years ago.
Wow, I thought that working from home would give me the freedom to work whenever, where ever and with whomever I want to. I thought I would have it all! Unfortunately this was just an illusion. With two kids under the age of two, I was overwhelmed, exhausted and restless all the time. Every day I was walking around with no particular goal or direction. Just juggling and hoping one day my life would be less chaotic.

But one day I committed to get organized once and for all!
I wanted to feel a sense of control over my life and have some kind of structure in my household. I wanted to be able to pursue my business dreams even if I had a busy life.
The first thing I did was search for everything that could help me organize my home quickly and easily. I read books, signed up for workshops, purchased online courses about paper-clutter, home-management, time-management and productivity.
Of all the tips, methods and systems that I've learned and implemented in my own home and life, some worked for me and some didn't.

I realized that there was NOT ONE single system or method that suited my needs as both a mom AND as an entrepreneur.

What I needed was:
·       something to keep me on course and focused so I can get things done.
·       something that would help me build a successful business from home.
·       something that was going to help me to make well use of my small windows of time I had available to me.
·       something that would allow me to run my household smoothly, have plenty of time to work in my business without feeling guilty that my house was a mess.

I collected all systems and methods that really worked for my family and put them into a card box for easy reference. This is how the step-by-step HOME & BUSINESS SYSTEM was born. This easy system helps me, and my clients, to get things done around my home and business, and have plenty of time to spend quality time with my family, and have plenty of free time to do what I love.

3 Time-saving Secrets to manage Home and Business efficiently

1) Create structure when you are struggling to get things done
Yes I said it! The S-word! The-spontaneity-creativity-killing-principle. Most people don’t like the word structure because they think it will suppress their freedom, creativity and take out all the spontaneity of their lives if they work on a schedule. Like it or not we all need some kind of structure in our lives to be able to do what we love to do. Knowing what you need to do and having an efficient plan (aka structure) to do it will make it easy for you to actually do what needs to be done.

2) Create the supporting systems and habits
From my journey of working more efficiently from home I have learned the biggest secret of having an organized life. It all comes down to having the right systems and supporting habits. Yes, that’s all! Habits are what separate the organized homes from the sloppy ones. What we do on a consistent basis and what we implement in our daily lives are what creates the lifestyle we want.

3) Make well use of your Small Windows of Time
We moms who have a home-based business are not running one, we are running two or more businesses at the same time. (Yes your family is your business too). And let's be honest: we usually don't have 8 hours non-stop-business-only-days. Our family activities and responsibilities are important to us, as well. This is why it is hugely important to learn to effectively use these 15 or 30 minute slots to get things done. Sometimes those small windows of time is all we have.

The GREATEST thing that comes from filling your own cup

is what you GIVE when the cup overflows.

Imagine with me if you will.....

An empty tea pot.

Beautiful cups waiting to be filled.

Now pour your pot and what do you give....emptiness, air, nothing that will benefit your guest.

This is how so many of us live our lives and run our business. We attempt to give without first filling our pot.

Now imagine that tea pot is full. So full it's overflowing.

This is how we give with substance and matter.
My cup runneth over.

How then do we go about filling our pot so it may overflow?

1. Give to yourself.

Woa..you may be saying. That's selfish. NO, it is selfish to not give to yourself first.

By giving yourself love, grace, gratitude for who you are, gratitude for your wealth, your health, time to nurture your body and your soul, you are filling your pot with pure gold. As your pot begins to overflow you won't be able to help but give. And what you do give will have substance. Be authentic. From the heart and soul of who you are.

2. Receive from others.

This tends to be a hard one for many people and is so important. All too often we deflect someone's overflow.

When someone compliments you, do you receive it with a thank you or do you deflect it? When someone offers to do something for you, do you feel you owe them something in return? And how about from yourself, do you find yourself saying, "Damn I'm good at that"?

3. Give without any benefit to you.

When our cup runneth over, we give without any strings attached, not to get something in return. Shoot, when our cups runneth over giving happens so naturally that we often don't even realize we are giving.

4. Give what you would like to receive.

If you'd like to have more love in your life, give out more love. If you'd like more peace in your life, give yourself quiet time for peace. If you'd like more laughter and dancing in your life, begin laughing and dancing.

Watch and see...

Become aware.... If you've started laughing and dancing more you'll probably find more people laughing and dancing around you.

There is a saying that if you give you shall receive. In the business world it's even coined as givers gain. Yes, these are true statements if used in the right context. Before you can give you must have something of substance to give. If not, you're just full of hot air.

As we dive deep into a season of giving, let us be of substance. Create and be from our hearts and from love. First for ourselves and then overflowing to others.

Today I received a gift from a family member who recently went through a major surgery. Here it is the holiday season and she can't talk, she's in a great amount of discomfort and pain, and she has a large amount of bruising and swelling. Within the text of her update from the doctor she ended with "remember I am a winner".

Please always remember, you too are a winner.

with love,
Sue

Happy Thanksgiving to You and Your Family

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough and more. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend."
                                                                                            ~Melody Beattie

I am truly blessed with a family that likes to cook. My brother-in-law cooks the turkey. My dad makes his traditional stuffing. My sister cooks the veggies. Bill makes the potatoes. And I eat!
(there's a gift to not being a very good cook :)

I've been thinking of you so I made this video message for you......

Bill and I wish you and your family a very happy thanksgiving.

with much appreciation,

Sue

So much to do. Where do you start?

So many idea's. So much to do.

At the end of the week do you find yourself asking, "What did

I accomplish this week?"

Hear yourself saying, "Oh shoot, I forgot to..."

Our creative brains can only hold and organize so much.

I have a great tool my clients and I use. This will help you get clear and take deliberate action to live your life and run your business on purpose.

I call it the Monday Mojo and with the holidays approaching I thought you might  find this tool helpful too.

Click Here to Download the Monday Mojo

This is a quick and easy process and great way to start your week. Some of us do this on Sunday evening, some on Monday morning, and most of us use this process when we find ourselves feeling a bit overwhelmed or unfocused during the week.

I'd love to hear how you use the Monday Mojo tool. Leave a comment below or over on the Facebook page (here).

Give yourself some space to feel...

But....

Won't it make me weak if I cry?

I'm disappointed and I 'shouldn't' feel this way.

Won't God be mad at me for being angry about ...

I'm 'not suppose' to feel envy.

I'm afraid if I allow these feelings, I'll never quit.

Truth is -

Crying doesn't make a person weak.

It takes a lot of strength to be vulnerable. To allow yourself to be true with you.

God already knows what we are feeling. Not saying it out loud or allowing it to surface, doesn't keep it from God.

Here's the thing -

When my clients let those feelings out in a safe and supportive place, they are able to release them.

Or there is a something under that emotion or feeling that is being masked. By allowing and leaning into the emotion they uncover the root and are able to go deeper.

This takes practice -

Debbie was upset with her husband. They'd had a tiff about something silly. She sat thinking, "how could he be so mean to me?" Taking herself out of the victim role, Debbie asked herself, "why is this really bugging me?"

This was a new process for Debbie.

Instead of analyzing or trying to fix the current situation, she gave herself the same respect and love she would one of her friends or loved ones.

She was gentle and non judgmental with herself. Through the process she realized she was holding on to some feelings from something that happened at work earlier in the week.

Exposing the feelings gave them less power. They were no longer festering underneath the surface.

The more we engage with this process and allow ourselves to connect with our inner core, the true you, the easier it becomes.

You can't deal with something until you are aware of it. We can't become aware if we mask or cover up the truth. This often happens out of habit. It's the way we've done it for years.

We can change the habit and create a new one. One of awareness, acceptance and love.

And good news...by becoming aware of our feelings we'll start to notice even more of the good ones too.

Feelings of gratitude, laughter and love.

Go ahead and feel those feelings and give yourself some love. You're worth it!

Feel my feelings?

But!

Won't it make me weak if I cry?

But, I am angry and won't God be mad at me for being angry about ... that thing.

But, I'm jelous and I'm not suppose to feel that way.

But, I'm feeling lonely and I have all these people around me.

Truth is -

Feeling your feelings doesn't mean only the not so good ones. Feel sister feel.

God already knows what you are feeling. Not saying it out loud or allowing it to surface doesn't keep it from God.

Letting your feelings out doesn't mean you'll be stuck there. Actually it's a great release to move forward.
